From Oscar-nominated filmmaker Ava DuVernay, Origin explores the mystery of history, the wonders of romance, and a fight for our future. Fascinated by Isabel Wilkerson’s groundbreaking 2020 work of nonfiction, Caste: The Origin of Our Discontents, DuVernay wanted to invite people into Wilkerson’s world, and over the course of fifteen months, she interviewed Wilkerson more than a dozen times. Origin follows Wilkerson as she prepares and writes her book over the course of which she travels throughout India, Germany, and the USA for her research on cast systems that impact history. Ava DuVernay is best known for Selma, A Wrinkle in Time, 13th, and recently the series When They See Us.
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
