One of the greatest Japanese box office successes, and an international hit that inspired a Hollywood remake of the same name starring Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez, Shall We Dance? is an entertaining, emotional, authentic and simple character study about stepping out of one’s comfort zone. Full of life, elegance, healing, and self-expression that combines romance, comedy, dance, Shall We Dance? follows Shohei Sugiyama (Kôji Yakusho), a typically strait-laced Japanese conventional white collar – married, middle-aged, workaholic accountant. Passing by in his commuter train one day, Shohei glimpses a beautiful young woman through the window of a dance school. His dull life takes a funny turn when he signs up for ballroom dancing lessons to try to meet the mysterious woman.
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
