The greatest concert film of all time, Stop Making Sense brings to the screen Talking Heads at Hollywood’s Pantages Theater in December 1983: David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz, and Jerry Harrison, alongside an ecstatic ensemble of supporting musicians. Renowned filmmaker Jonathan Demme (Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia) captures the band at their exhilarating best, in this new and complete 4K restoration for the film’s 40th anniversary that includes a completely remastered soundtrack. So many scenes in this epochal film are iconic – from the duet of Byrne and a floor lamp to the ‘big suit’ as a nod to the Noh theatre – making this a film to dance to, a film to remember, ‘a dose of happiness from beginning to end,’ as put by Pauline Kael in The New Yorker. Some of Talking Heads’ terrific songs are here, such as ‘Naive Melody,’ ‘Psycho Killer,’ ‘Burning Down the House,’ ‘Once in a Lifetime,’ and ‘Genius of Love.’
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
