Telling a tale of brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers, heartbreak, horror, humanity and inhumanity, crime and money, blood and war, The Strangers’ Case is an authentic tragedy styled like a suspenseful Hollywood thriller. Taking off from Aleppo, the film follows the paediatric surgeon Amira and her daughter as they become central characters in a dangerous tale that intricately interweaves the lives of five families spanning four continents. The Strangers’ Case which premiered at the Berlinale takes its title from a tirade on refugees by Sir Thomas More in Shakespeare’s play written centuries ago. Director Brandt Andersen is an activist and artist who has been working with refugees, organising film camps, and collaborating with the UNHCR: ‘But social change is possible, even through one film.’
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
