Mikami is an ex-yakuza of middle age with most of his life in prison, who gets released after serving 13 years of sentence for murder. Hoping to find his long lost mother, from whom he was separated as a child, he applies for a documentary TV show and meets young TV director Tsunoda. Having no friends or family and no valid skills for work opportunities, he struggles to fit into society, and get a proper job. His impulsive, adamant nature and ingrained beliefs cause friction in his relationship with Tsunoda and those who want to help him. Modelled after a real person, Mikami is played by Koji Yakusho with a captivating performance displaying a range of emotions of an ex convict’s stigmas and inner struggles.
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
