Uniquely marrying comedy and supernatural horror, Don’t Cry Butterfly tackles men’s infidelity, womanhood, family relations, and cultural traditions. The film follows a housewife, who hires a powerful spell master to try and get her cheating husband fall back into love with her, but instead a mysterious presence seeps into the house. Her home is no longer a place to be healed through feng shui or witchcraft, but a place to either leave or forever change. Premiering at Venice Film Festival’s Critics’ Week section, the feature film directorial debut of Duong Dieu Linh follows her award-winning short film series about middle-aged women.
