Nanni Moretti, recipient of the 2002 Honorary Cinema Award of Istanbul Film Festival, delivers a biting and satirical masterpiece. Ecce Bombo, which premiered at the 1978 Cannes Film Festival, follows the misadventures of a group of idealistic filmmakers as they attempt to produce a Marxist-inspired Western. Moretti himself stars in the film as Michele, an egotistical, perpetually unhappy film enthusiast – his second film where he casts himself as the same character. Moretti’s signature blend of humour, social commentary, and self-deprecating wit shines through in this cult classic. Ecce Bombo is a hilarious and insightful look at the struggles of artistic expression and political idealism. This special screening will showcase the film from its newly restored copy.
