> DETAIL INFOAs a photographer, writer, and chronicler Larry Towell has documented many historical events, human rights, and conflicts in Nicaragua to Mexico and Canada, Palestine to Afghanistan. He joined Magnum in 1988 and became a freelance photographer. His books include photographs, oral histories, as well as poems. He says, "If there's one theme that connects all my work, I think it's that of landlessness; how land makes people into who they are and what happens to them when they lose it and thus lose their identities." His latest film, The Man I Left Behind co-directed with Matthieu Rytz and Hubert Hayaud is screening within the context of this year’s festival. At this festival talk, Larry Towell will discuss his career and interests and the intersection with the medium of film.
