2025 Berlin Best Screenplay

Romanian auteur Radu Jude has a lot to say about the world and its issues, and his latest feature is as radical and unpredictable as his earlier films, Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World (2023) and Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn (2021). In this absurdist comedy-drama, we follow Orsolya, a bailiff in Cluj, the main city in Transylvania. One day, she must evict a homeless man who lives in the basement of a building. But, an unexpected event creates a moral crisis she tries to solve as best she can, while she is riddled with guilt. As Radu Jude’s trademark, Kontinental ’25 is filled with fascinating dialogues on politics, economics, racism, capitalism, war, and social justice.
