Young teacher Juci attempts to challenge the outdated methods in her school, while new student Palkó, recently relocated from abroad, struggles to adapt to the demanding educational system. Their personal stories offer insight into the broader Hungarian society. Shot on 16 mm film, Lesson Learned skilfully balances dark and brighter moments with humour. Lesson Learned is the first feature by Hungarian director Bálint Szimler, who pursued an improvisational acting style: ’I didn’t give the script to the actors, and they didn’t read the script at all. They didn’t have any lines to learn. I created a situation, and I gave them motivations. I told them what the idea for the scene was, and they went freestyle from there.’

* In accordance with Article 7 of the Law No. 5224 amended on 18.01.2019, cinema films that have not been reviewed and classified can only be screened in festivals, special screenings and similar cultural and artistic events with an 18+ age restriction.
