2024 Festival du Nouveau Cinéma (Montreal) Grand Prix–National Competition

From Toronto to Oslo, we follow the journey of young academic Audrey Benac. Audrey undertakes a quest towards one woman – the acclaimed early 20th-century Canadian violinist Kathleen Parlow – as she simultaneously flees from another, her failed musician mother. Her dying mother, whose dreams and demons now haunt Audrey. Her journey through archives and memories and cities, isn’t just about bringing Parlow’s music back to life; it’s a quest for closure and understanding, seeking peace with her mother’s legacy. Bohdanowicz’s fourth feature, A Woman Escapes, co-directed with Burak Çevik and Blake Williams, was screened at the festival in 2023.
