Sweden, 2018. A mysterious syndrome affecting refugee children is sparking concerns among doctors and politicians. When young Katja collapses and falls into a coma, her parents Sergei and Natalia are faced with a moral dilemma. Can they summon hope to save their daughters as their asylum application to Sweden is rejected? The film premiered at Venice Film Festival’s Orizzonti section. Alexandros Avranas, whose previous films Miss Violence and Love Me Not were screened at the festival, was inspired for Quiet Life ’ever since I heard about Child Resignation Syndrome a few years ago.’ This is a condition of despair affecting hundreds of children on the move, driven from their homes.
