Super Happy Forever is a poignant exploration of love and loss; a delicate, emotionally charged drama that oscillates between the past and present. Set in a small seaside resort along the Japanese coast, the story follows Sano, who returns to the place where he first met his wife, Nagi, five years earlier. Now, grappling with her death, Sano’s journey becomes a heartfelt exploration of grief and memory. Emphasising the beauty of ordinary moments with a humanistic approach and minimalist visual style Super Happy Forever evokes Japanese auteurs Kore-eda and Ozu. As director Igarashi puts it, ’eternal happiness doesn’t exist, but we are all looking for it nonetheless.’
