Tom Tykwer returns to the big screen and the present day after the long-running neo-noir TV series Babylon Berlin. Berlinale opener The Light follows the Engels family: Tim Engels (Lars Eidinger), his wife Milena, their twins Frieda and Jon, and Milena’s other son Dio ––a modern family living in a Berlin apartment. They have long lost the common bond that once held them together as a family. They share a home, but keep their lives separate. When enigmatic Syrian immigrant Farrah enters their lives as a housekeeper, she unexpectedly sets the disparate family on a new track. They open themselves and their deepest wounds up to Farrah, until they finally understand that she has been seeking their family for a long time as part of a plan. Scattered with elements of magical realism, The Light is an exhilarating and emotional drama by Tom Tykwer, a master of atmosphere and visual flair.
