For 40 years, Magnum photographer Larry Towell has documented the plight of the displaced around the world. In this film, he captures the universal longing of people looking for a place to call their own, and retrospectively takes a look at the traces of his own life. The Man I Left Behind is directed by Canadian photographer and musician Larry Towell, Swiss producer Matthieu Rytz, and editor and photographer Hubert Hayaud. Larry Towell is a prominent documentary photographer renowned for his work on conflict, human rights, and issues related to land, and has worked in many countries including Nicaragua and Guatemala, El Salvador, Palestine, among Mennonites, and in Afghanistan. Matthieu Rytz is a producer, curator, photographer, and award-winning film director. Hubert Hayaud splits his professional life between editing feature-length documentaries and fiction films, and photography.

Larry Towell will be giving a festival talk on Saturday 15 April.
