2025 Berlin Jury Prize

A young girl’s gift for communicating with animals gives her guardians the idea of offering consultations with her in order to earn a living. The roles are clearly delineated: the woman, Myriam, interprets the messages that the girl, Anika, receives, while Myriam’s partner Roger handles the money. The unusual trio journeys to Anika’s mother, who is institutionalised in a psychiatric hospital. The Message is an emotional road movie where the journey is metaphysical and real, across breathtaking landscapes. ‘At first, childhood is full of illusions, but eventually, those illusions are shattered. Adults cannot perform magic,’ says writer-director Iván Fund.
