A family disconcerted upon their small failings blowing up into lies battles against the odds to stay put by covering up the truth. In order to avoid hardship and responsibilities, the family chooses to ignore reality. But does playing “Three Monkeys” invalidate the truth of its existence? Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s fifth feature and third film to compete at Cannes following Distant and Climates, Three Monkeys was shortlisted as Türkiye’s candidate for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. The journal of the film editing by Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Bora Gökşingöl, and Ayhan Ergürsel, based on Ceylan’s notes was published in 2008.
