A charming and heart-warming film by veteran director Peter Kerekes, Wishing on a Star blends documentary and fiction to explore journeys of self-discovery under a new sky. Inside a crumbling castle in a small town near Venice, lives Luciana de Leoni d’Asparedo, an astrologer with a very special technique. Utilizing complex maps (and travel sites as well,) Luciana listens to the wishes of her clients and advises them to take a special trip on their birthdays in order to be reborn and change their destiny. Whether it’s Taipei, Beirut, or a nearby village, during these birthday journeys, the clients will go through unexpected transformations and magical situations to help them discover what they truly desire. Director Kerekes reminds us that the path to happiness can sometimes be found in unexpected places and journeys.
