In the frenzy of Fashion Week, three women cross paths in Paris, grappling with the world's tragedies and the questions of their lives: Maxine, an American horror film director, discovers she has cancer; Ada, a young South Sudanese model, escapes a predetermined destiny after being discovered; and French makeup artist Angèle, a small hand working in the shadows of the catwalks, dreams of escaping her life to become a writer. Couture is the first fictional film allowed to be shot inside Chanel's Paris atelier. With the special access she was granted, director Winocour had the chance to reflect the fashion world from a female and working-class point of view: ‘To me, it’s as if those three women are one woman at different ages, one in her 20s, the other in her 30s, and Angelina in her 40s.’ The film had its world premiere within the Special Presentations section of the Toronto Film Festival.
