Sometimes all you need is a free-spirited person who seems to be your opposite to get more courageous, bolder, freer, more mature. Nineteen-year-old Hugo spends his summers at his family’s house on an island off the Atlantic coast. But this year is different. Hugo actually looks different, and he shows up with his new girlfriend, Queen, a nail artist with a glitzy style and effusive demeanour. It is as if Queen is a larger-than-life force, an extra muscle for Hugo. In spite of their seemingly incongruous couple’s energy, they quickly become the centre of attention on the small island. Aurélien Peyre’s bittersweet debut feature explores the blunders of first love, the cruelty of youth, and class-based prejudices in an exotic setting without any parents.
