Have you ever grieved someone who hasn’t died yet? Profoundly emotional, gentle yet playful, this film opens an intimate space to reflect on pure sibling love and addiction, exploring its inner psychological roots through a powerful personal story. Long-term observation, text, Instagram filters, and AI-animated photos are combined into a form of disclosure. Made over seven years, If Pigeons Turned to Gold follows the lives of four family members, whose shared past has grown into a fragmented, contrasting present. While Pepa, the film’s author and narrator, has ‘order’ in her life, her brother and two cousins have taken to the street, where each faces addiction. A balancing act between love and contempt, care and destruction seeking to find whether family saves our life or – on the contrary – destroys it.
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
