Berlinale’s opening film is set in Kabul in 2021, just before the Taliban’s return to power. The film follows Naru, the only camerawoman at Afghanistan’s main television station. After leaving her unfaithful husband, Naru is convinced that no good men exist in her country, until she meets Qodrat, Kabul TV’s most influential journalist, who offers her a career opportunity. Last days of freedom will witness a probability of a good man being out there. Shot entirely in Germany, Afghan filmmaker Shahrbanoo Sadat's follow up to Wolf and Sheep and The Orphanage, is inspired by the autobiographical writings of author and actor Anwar Hashimi, who stars in the film alongside Sadat herself, who plays Naru.
This film is screened with the support of Goethe-Institut Istanbul and Kino 2026.
This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
