Only Rebels Win tells the story of Suzanne, a widow in her sixties, who meets Osmane, a young worker in Beirut. She is a mother of two adult children; he is an undocumented immigrant, half her age. Against all odds, they fall in love. But, it seems the whole world is standing in their way –– her children, the neighbours, even the priest, and the country itself. Starring the legendary Hiam Abbass as Suzanne, this touching film had its world premiere as the opening film of the Panorama section of the Berlinale.
