Blues musician Al Cook, born Alois Koch, lives in Vienna, in an apartment filled with memories, vinyl records, books, and videotapes –artifacts of a fading fame. Outside, the world carries on without him. But when his home is slated for demolition, out of the ruins of his existence, a long-forgotten dream suddenly resurfaces. Shot on 16mm film, The Loneliest Man in Town stars Alois Koch playing a version of himself. The latest film by Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmel (Vera, Ufaklık / La pivellina, Mister Universo) premiered at the Berlinale. ‘Inspired by his remarkable individuality, we tell a story of loneliness, loss, and lived passion,” the directors say.
