2022 Berlin Best Director

Taking its English title from the Tindersticks’ track composed for its soundtrack, Both Sides of the Blade observes a passionate love triangle. The three corners of the triangle are three heavyweights of French cinema: Juliette Binoche is Sara, a presenter on a Parisian radio talk show; Vincent Lindon is her partner Jean, a retired sports star; and Grégoire Colin is François, Sara’s ex-lover whom she left for Jean. One morning (by chance?) Sarah crosses paths with François. She is overtaken by the sensation that her life could suddenly change, and from here on, things spiral out of control. Adapting Un tournant de la Vie, one of Angot’s novels, the screenplay is written by Claire Denis and Christine Angot, their second collaboration since Let the Sunshine In in 2017.
