Routinely listed as one of the best Hungarian films ever made Time Stands Still is the first retro Hungarian film about the history of the 1960s. It depicts the teen years of the director’s generation, those youth whose future was determined by the 1956 Uprising, a major historical and social turning point. The film is set in 1963, the year of amnesties. Permeated by rock and roll and suspicion, love and a sense of disillusionment, the film follows two teenage brothers living in the shadow of their dissident father, who has fled the country in 1956. Wonderfully balancing the political with the personal, funny, sexy, and romantic, and bitter at times, and a wonderful soundtrack with rock and roll songs, after watching Time Stands Still, you will never listen to Paul Anka’s ‘You Are My Destiny,’ in the same way again.

This film is screened as part of the Turkish-Hungarian Cultural Year with the kind contribution of of the Liszt Institute Hungarian Culture Center and the Hungarian National Film Institute.

This film was a Meetings on the Bridge participant.
